The highest monthly trading volume since October 2013
Equities
The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in April was €78.6 billion, up 36.4% year on year, representing the highest volume since October 2013. The trading volume in the first four months reached €269.2 billion, up 22.5% from the same period a year earlier.
The number of trades in April reached 5.7 million, up 45.3% from the same month a year earlier. The number of trades to the end of April came in at 23.7 million, up 68.6% year-on-year.
As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in April came in at €872.7 million, up 536.3% from the same month a year earlier while in the first four months it totalled €3.5 billion, up 292% from the same period in 2013.
At 36,637, the number of ETF trades to the end of April was 80.4% higher than in the same period in 2013, while in April it reached 8,400, up 69.5% year on year.
As for the Warrants and Certificates segment, the trading volume to the end of April was €277.6 million, up 2.6% from the same month in 2013. In April, the trading volume in this segment was €68.9 million, up 9.5% from the same period in 2013. The number of trades in April reached 14,771, slightly up 0.1% year-on-year.
The number of Warrants and Certificates admitted to trading in 2014 stands at 2,612.
Futures and Options
In April trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 3.7 million contracts, up 34% from the same month a year earlier. The trading volume to the end of April totaled 19.3 million contracts, up 15% year-on-year.
By segment, in April, it is worth mentioning the heavy trading in Index Options, with 593,705 contracts traded, up 88% year on year. This product also showed heavy trading from January to April, with 2.4 million contracts traded, up 54% from the same period in 2013. Other segments also reported sharp year-on-year increases in April, namely Stock Options (+31.8%) and. Stock Futures (+21.8%).
Corporate Debt
The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in April reached €122.2 billion. The volume for the first four months of the year exceeded €500 billion (€501,107 billion), down 8% year-on-year.
The trading volume on the SEND platform in April reached €247 million while from January to the end of April it totaled €1.2 billion, up 39% from the same period in 2013. The number of trades channeled through this platform in April reached 14,859 while in the period from January to April it increased 76.7% year-on-year to 76,612 trades.
In April trading on BME’s Public Debt wholesale electronic platform, SENAF, reached €8.4 billion while it totaled €36.4 billion in the first four months of the year, up 122.7% from the same period a year earlier.
